PROJECT 102 - The Peyote Trianlge

Hello there!

I hope you are having a fab day cos I am. It’s a bright and sunny day so just perfect timing to pull out your beads and join in; today’s project is a very exciting one.
I created various peyote triangles and used them to form this necklace using the even count peyote stitch.

The peyote stitch can be used to form various items not only as jewelry pieces but also decorative items. It is a very nice, easy to learn and straightforward stitch.
Grab your beading mat and let’s begin.

The materials needed for this project are
Materials Needed

   The steps are as follows:
 1.       Thread your needle
 2.       String 3 A beads at the bottom of your  thread.
 3.       Tie a knot
 4.       Trim off excess thread

5.
Pick up 2 A beads and pass through the next bead
6.       Again, pick 2 A beads and pass through the next bead
7.       We pick up 2 A beads and pass through the next two beads.

This is because we are at the end of our “cycle” and we need to step up for the next “cycle”.

You should have something like this

8.       String 2 A beads at this top and pass through the next bead

Begin the peyote stitch by skipping the next bead and passing through the following bead.
9.      Pick up a B bead (second colour), skip the following A bead and pass your needle          through the next bead. At this point, we have gotten to our top.
10.   String 2 A beads to form the “mid-stem and pass” through the next bead.

11.    Again string a B bead (second colour), skip the following A bead and pass your needle through the next bead. (The peyote stitch).

12. Since we are at the top, we repeat step 10 which is to string on 2 A beads and pass through the next bead.
13.  Likewise, we do the peyote stitch by stringing on a B bead, omitting the next bead and passing through the next bead.  However, since we are completing a cycle, we need to ‘step-up’, so we pass the needle into 2 beads, as shown

At this point, you should have something like this

14.   At the top, string on 2 A beads to form your stem.

For this cycle, we would be having 2 peyote stitches on each side.
15.   String on a B bead, omit a bead and pass through the next bead as usual. In this case, a B               bead.
16.  We string another B bead, skip the next and pass our needle through the following bead (an A       bead in this case)
We repeat what goes on at the top of a stem which is….

17. Yea, u got it right, stringing 2 A beads and passing through the next bead.

\
We just completed one side out of three so we follow steps 14- 16 likewise for the 2 remaining sides. However, at the end of our cycle (the third side), we need to ‘step up’, meaning we pass the beads through the next 2 beads. These pictures would help you follow through

Bear in mind that for the number of peyote stiches increases as we repeat each cycle, so keep building your triangle till you have your required size.

On completion of our triangle, we tie a knot at the top then trim off the excess thread.

There you are with your peyote triangle…CONGRATS

You can form all sorts with your triangle such as pendants for necklaces, charm bracelets or even join different triangles to form a lovely necklace such as mine.
