PROJECT 101- Celini Spiral

Hello there!

I’m happy to welcome you all to the blog again after a long break we both gave ourselves J
The Celini Spiral is a complex looking pattern, yet very simple once you get a good grip of it. The major thing needed to create this design is to have varying sizes of beads in the right progression. As for all designs, creativity is needed to ensure your spiral comes out looking gorgeous…

The materials needed for this project are:

Materials Needed

Let’s get started!!!!
1.     Thread your needle to 30 inches length of fishing line (string).
2.    Begin by stringing 4 of your A beads, 2 B beads 2 C beads 2 D beads 2 C beads and 2 B beads. Meaning a total of 14 beads.
3.     Pass the needle through all of your strung beads, leaving some 6 inches tail of your string at the bottom.
4.     Again, pass the needle through the 4 A beads while wrapping the tail on your index finger

The key point to note when doing a Celini is that whatever bead your thread is coming out of, that is the next bead you string on, skip the following bead then pass the needle through the next bead…I hope it is not getting complex?  Just follow along….

5.    Since you have your thread coming out of an A bead, pick an A bead, skip  the following B bead then pass the needle through the next B bead.
6.     Coming out of a B bead, string a B bead and likewise skip the immediate C  bead then pass the needle through a C bead.
7.       As usual, we string on a C bead, miss the next and pass the needle through a   D bead.

Pretty sure you’re getting it bit by bit. Lets continue...
8.      Coming out of a D bead, string a D bead, skip the next and pass through the  C bead.
9.    Similarly, we then string on a C bead, miss the following B bead then pass  through the later B bead.
10.  Since we are out of a B bead, string on a B bead, miss the next bead and pass  through the A bead.

At this point, your beaded piece being very little could be challenging to hold. Putting it between your thumb and index finger helps to make it easier to hold on to.
The next step is called the ‘step up point’ to enable us prepare for the next cycle of spiral
11.      Coming out of an A bead, we pick up an A bead as usual.
12.      Skip the next A bead and pass through the next 2 A beads.  This is the ‘step    up point
13.      Pick up an A bead, skip the next B bead and pass the needle into the latter      B bead.

Continue this procedure of stringing the bead you are coming out from, skipping one bead and passing the next bead.  Also note your step up point…It all remains the same process, however, ensure you have the right tension (not extremely tight and not loose).
Keep building your spiral till you have reached your desired length.

Congrats! You are finished with your Celini Spiral….YES, its that simple.  You can form necklaces, necklace features, bracelets and earrings with this Celini spiral. BE CREATIVE
